Along the King’s Road in the district of Hakkila in Vantaa, just across the road from the Honkanummi cemetery, stands a deteriorating 100-year-old house. The house doesn’t stand out except for the large sign that read “SEXI” of course. This is the house where Carl-Erik “Kalle” Flinck has been selling sex for 30 years. Well to be exact, he’s been selling porn. Inside the shelves bow under the weight of Flinck’s DVDs. ‘Over 10 000,’ according to him. Everything from gay porn to old women and hardcore S&M.

Before porn, in the 70’s, Flinck ran a pinball arcade at the same location. But running the pinball machines without other business activities was prohibited when Finland’s Slot Machine Association gained the exclusive right to operate the machines. Flinck then decided to start a used bookstore.

He soon found out that the machines rented from the Association weren’t profitable and people were more keen to exchange old magazines rather than to pay for them. That’s when he came up with the idea of selling porn. According to Flinck, his wife Ritva wasn’t against it and even stands in for him during his lunch break.

Flinck, now in his 70s, explains that nowadays running the sex shop is more of a hobby rather than a serious business endeavour. ‘It keeps my head in order.’ That’s not the only reason though: ‘If I sit at home the wife orders me around.’
